Madrina Project
Guatemala

Rotary E-Club San Diego Global (RECSDG) has been supporting, through small District grants, 16 students start a business and finish their high school education in Guatemala.
This past year five of these students were chosen to go on to college programs based on their outstanding grades and have completed their first semester with flying colors. They did this despite Covid’s economic effect on their country’s health and economy.
These students have proven their worth – working together on businesses: creating reusable menstrual pads, ecological soap, and masks (see photos) to earn money for their tuition, and to help support their families. The Rotary grants have also helped pay their tuition.
Train For Change
Honduras

In association with Students Helping Honduras, an organization that helps build schools and orphanages in the El Progreso region of Honduras, “Train for Change” aims to lift children out of poverty and violence through education.
Currently, less than 50% of youth complete their primary school education. Often times teachers lack the necessary skills, training, and resources to help further their students’ education.
The program Train for Change will help train these teachers and equip them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources. In turn, these teachers will help train more teachers, creating a domino effect through the country which will bring systemic change.
